Zurlo declares victory, Gildersleeve not conceeding in Saratoga Co. Sheriff primary
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – It's considered one of the closest races in our area -- two men facing off to run for Saratoga County Sheriff on the Republican ticket.
Michael Zurlo appeared at Stillwater Town Hall to vote at noon Tuesday. He was all smiles, saying he was confident. Having crisscrossed the county he said he'd heard from many residents and understands their needs. He says his 32 years with the sheriff's department gives him the experience to build on the successes of his predecessor.
His opponent, Jeff Gildersleeve, appeared at the Burnt Hills Community Library to vote. He says he's spoken with many deputies who say a change in leadership is needed.
Zurlo has declared victory, but Gildersleeve has not yet conceeded. The County Board of
Elections says Zurlo has a 407 vote lead, but absentee ballots still need to be
The winner of this race will then go on to run on the Republican ticket in the November 5th general election for a six year term.
