ALBANY, N.Y. - Another piece of history has come to downtown Albany.
An exhibit at the Albany Visitors Bureau showcases the USS Albany, a submarine and memorabilia from the CG-10 Class Guided Missile Cruiser.
Officials say the Brass Test Model now on display was constructed by the U.S. Navy to determine the best placement of the various parts. They say the model was constructed in 1/48 scale of the actual ship size and that it was used not only for the USS Albany but the USS Chicago and USS Columbus
Restoration project manager, Bart Hutchins, served on the ship and helped put the exhibit together.
"That model out there represents not only the ship itself but the men who served on it," he said. "There were tens of thousands of men who served on it over the years, on all three vessels, and all that service needs to be recognized."
The exhibit opened Saturday and the official unveiling was held Monday. The exhibit will now be open to the public on permanent display.
