Candlelight vigils to protest bombing in Syria to take place in the Capital Region


Residents of the Capital Region will hold several candlelight vigils Monday evening to urge New York government officials to vote against bombing in Syria.

The vigils will take place in Delmar, Colonie, Saratoga Springs and New Lebanon. The events are part of the National Day of Action happening across the country.

National Day of Action was organized by groups such as, Civic Action, CREDO Action, Progressive Change Campaign Committee, and Win Without War. Local groups such as Bethlehem Neighbors for Peace and Occupy Albany Anti-War will also be participating.

At the vigils, local residents will urge Representatives Paul Tonko, Bill Owens and Chris Gibson as well as Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand to avoid war and to vote against the Authorization for Use of Military Force resolution that will be debated in Congress.

Candelight vigils in the Capital Region will take place in the following locations:

5 p.m. – Delmar at Kenwood and Delaware Avenues

6:30 p.m. – Colonie at Wolf Road and Central Avenue

7 p.m. – Saratoga Springs at Broadway and Church Street

7 p.m. – New Lebanon at Midtown Mall Route 20/22
