Mass. State Police K-9 assists in drug arrest

WILLIAMSTOWN, N.Y. – A Sergeant with Massachusetts State Police is proud of his K-9 officer for his assistance with a drug arrest.

Sgt. Gene Baker and K-9 Hieko worked together Thursday night to search for a subject who fled on foot after a car crash.

State Police say the subject was fleeing from Berkshire County Narcotics Detectives, who were trying to stop the person for illegal narcotics violations.

Car floor mats were used by K-9 Hieko as a scent article, and then tracked for about one mile before locating the subject behind a tree.

The subject is now in police custody.

Troopers also found 280 bags of heroin along the subject's escape route.  A 9mm Glock handgun was also found in the vehicle.
