CATSKILL, N.Y. - A 5-month-old puppy, found lying unconscious in a Greene County parking lot last weekend, is now making a remarkable recovery.
"This animal was brutally mauled by another dog," said Ron Perez, with the Columbia- Greene Humane Society. "It survived serious bite wounds and lacerations, so it is remarkable this animal survived."
The puppy survived thanks to Dr. Jerry Bilinski, owner of Chatham's Small Animal Hospital. His crew got to work immediately, giving the puppy a heavy dose of anti-biotics and patching up the wounds that covered a majority of his body.
Also, the puppy is quite a fighter.
"He is doing very well," said Balinski. "He has responded well to the medication and his wounds are healing very quickly."
Bilinski has a theory that perhaps the puppy was in the early stages of being trained for dog fighting.
The SPCA is hoping someone might have that information and the owner of the puppy will face animal cruelty charges.
"I don't think this was the animal wandering off and accidentally being attacked. People just didn't care for it," said Perez.
