Woman accused of taking Uncle Sam statue's head from crime scene

TROY, N.Y. – Police say a Mechanicville woman has been arrested in connection to the vandalism of an Uncle Sam statue in Troy.

According to Troy Police, detectives charged 23-year-old Sabrina Anderson with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property.

Anderson is accused of taking the "Uncle Rainbow" statue's head from the crime scene and bringing it to her home. The statue, located in downtown Troy on Fourth Street, was beheaded on August 10th.  Troy Police say Anderson is not suspected of inflicting the damage on the statue but is accused of taking the head from the crime scene.

Police say she turned herself in on Tuesday afternoon. No arrests have been made related to the Criminal Mischief of the statue.

She was released on an appearance ticket with a court appearance scheduled for Wednesday morning.

It has been five months since the City of Troy unveiled 30 Uncle Sam fiberglass statues placed throughout the city decorated by artists and school children, known as "The Uncle Sam Project."
