SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- The 2013 racing season in Saratoga has come to an end, and many business owners say the 150th anniversary brought them plenty of business.
Shop owners say great weather this year played a big role in sales.
"Definitely up," said Ugene Bizzaro of Saratoga Gelato.
And like the historic races of the 150th year, the shops here in Saratoga had year to celebrate.
"I think some of that's because all the publicity for the 150th but also the great weather," said Michael Rodgers of Saratoga Saddlery & international Boutiques.
Bizzarro credits the huge crowds for an above average year and, of course, the gelato. Down the block, shop owner Michael Rodgers is from Australia, but says this year, people have been buying American.
"People love to buy American made. Get a good pair of boots made in Texas, how better than that," said Rodgers.
Boots, dresses, and cowboy hats haven flying if his shelves, putting him 20 percent up during the month of August compared to last year.
"It's fantastic for Saratoga," he said.
It's an upward trend both these shop owners say they think will continue next year.
"I'm looking forward to 151, it's all great," said Rodgers.
