Two RPI grads scheduled for space missions

RENSSELAER, N.Y. – Two alumnus of RPI will head to space on two separate missions.

Fifty-three-year old Richard "Rick" Mastracchio is part of Expedition 39 as a flight engineer.  The flight will take him and five other crewmembers to the International Space Station.  The crew is scheduled to launch in late-March 2014 for the sixth month mission.

Mastracchio earned his master's degree at Rensselaer's Hartford Campus in 1987.  This will be his fourth space mission.

The second RPI graduate to head to the International Space Station is 36-year old Gregory Wiseman.  Wiseman is a lieutenant commander and test pilot in the United States Navy and became an astronaut in 2009.

Wiseman will fly for the first time on Expedition 40 and 41.  The mission is schedule for May through November 2014.

Wiseman graduated from RPI in 1997.
