Horse trainer arrested for abusing animals in Stillwater

STILLWATER, N.Y. - Stillwater Police say they have arrested a horse trainer for abusing animals following an investigation at a Stillwater horse farm.

Police have charged 46-year-old Joseph DeCarlo, of Clifton Park, with overdriving, torturing and injuring animals, a misdemeanor, following an investigation at a Stillwater horse farm.

It was discovered during a week-long investigation that DeCarlo allegedly did maliciously and cruelly overdrive and abuse a harness track Standardbred gelding horse resulting in severe and extensive internal and external mouth injuries requiring urgent medical care by a veterinary doctor.

The horse is reportedly still recovering from his injuries. DeCarlo was processed and released with an appearance ticket for Stillwater Town Court.
