HEBRON, N.Y. -- A Granville man has been charged with manslaughter after police say he was trying to commit suicide when he crashed his car head-on into another car in July.

Ora Roaix, 44, was arraigned Thursday morning, in connection to a July 20th three-car crash that killed 43-year-old Lisa Martin of North Adams, injured five others, and left Roaix with leg injuries.

Police say Roaix was suicidal and intentionally crashed into Martin's car on Route 22 near the intersection of Dorence Lane in Hebron.

Logan Hall, a pedestrian traveling south on State Route 22, said in previous reports that he came upon the accident and stopped to assist victims Mark L. Mattison, 44, of South Glens Falls, and Roaix. Hall was standing next to Roaix's vehicle, which came to rest on its side across both lanes when a third vehicle approached.

The third vehicle, operated by 87-year-old Dorothy Brace, of West Pawlet, Vt., came over the crest of the hill and could not stop in time to avoid hitting Roaix's vehicle. When they collided, her vehicle struck Hall.

Roaix and Mattison were transported to Albany Medical Center by Med Flight. Lois E. Nelson, 87, of Granville, who was a passenger in Brace's vehicle, and Hall were transported to Glens Falls Hospital by ambulance. Brace was treated at the scene by emergency personnel.

Roaix is charged with felony Manslaughter, punishable by up to five or 15 years in state prison.

Investigators reported that alcohol does not appear to be a factor. He was arraigned in the Town of Hebron Court and remanded to the Washington County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash or $50,000 bond bail.
