Bethlehem teen raises money for K-9 vests

DELMAR, N.Y. - A ceremony was held Tuesday afternoon in Bethlehem to honor a local high school senior who is working to keep police dogs safe.

Rachel Piccolino has been working to raise money towards the purchase of K-9 ballistic proof vests for the Albany County Sheriff's Office three dogs.

She has already raised $210 by collecting money from vet's office jars, but needs $3,000 to get vests for all three dogs.

"It's important to us to protect our deputies but it's just as important to protect our canines, that are out there saving a lot of cops lives every day," said Sheriff Craig Apple.

"I've always been a dog lover. I have a black lab at home and I think it's so important to protect these dogs, they're heroes," said Piccolino.

Rachel has set up a fundraising page online to try and help her reach the $3,000 goal. Find out more here
