Wynantskill superintendent resigns after calls for termination

WYNANTSKILL, N.Y. -- Superintendent Dr. Lisa Henkel announced her resignation Wednesday night at a Board of Education meeting, just over a month after teachers and parents called for her termination.

In June, the Wynantskill Teacher's Association issued a resolution of no confidence in the superintendent. The resolution was passed with a vote of 28 to 1, requesting the Wynantskill Union Free School District Board of Education take immediate action to end Henkel's employment.

Parents soon voiced their opinions, calling for her termination during a July 11th school board meeting.

A short time later on July 30th, the school board voted quickly and unanimously to hire two independent consultants to tackle their concerns. The consultants were to look into human resource complaints, as well as special education and the district's response to intervention.

The Wynantskill Union Free School District Board of Education has appointed Lee Bordick as the district's interim superintendent/principal effective Wednesday, Aug. 21. He retired in 2007 from Lansingburgh Central School after serving 22 years as the district's superintendent. Since retiring, he has served as an interim principal at Catskill and Ichabod Crane central schools and as an interim superintendent at Chatham, Northeast and Ichabod Crane central schools. He also taught Educational Administration as an adjunct faculty member at the College of St. Rose.
