SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – A meeting was held Tuesday by the Saratoga Board of Education to discuss the continued employment of Division Street Elementary School principal despite many concerned parents calling for her termination.
In June parents called the attrition rate at the school "alarming" after they say the school has lost more than a dozen teachers in one year, and they believe the Principal, Dr. Greer Miller, is to blame.
Superintendent Michael Piccirillo addressed a group of 40 on Tuesday night, stating that all vacant instructional positions for the 2013-2014 school year have been filled.
The results of an independent firm's interviews of several departing employees were also released. From the 13 interviews, four areas that needed work were identified:
-- Improving school culture as it relates to management and staff.
-- Improving communication between members of the Division Street School Community and District Administration.
-- Further training regarding implementation of the new Annual Professional Performance Appraisal across all buildings in the District.
-- Examining Consistency of procedures and practices expected by management across all buildings in the district.
Dr. Miller will keep her job, and district administrators will work closely with her and school staff, attending faculty meetings and instituting classroom visits.
