ALBANY, N.Y. - Ben Weisman of Albany officially opened on Saturday, bringing with it dozens of new jobs.
Ben Weisman of Albany sits on an 18 acre export facility site located next to the Port of Albany. Owners say they spent around $15 million converting the site over the last several months.
The export facility and scrap metal recycling yard buys old scrap metal and breaks it down. Operations Manager Ron Hamilton explains, "You name it, everything from appliances, to wire, to copper, to brass. If it is metal we take it and we recycle it."
Owners say they have hired 30 employees so far, and in the coming months they plan to take on 50 more.
One new employee, Heather Davison, moved from North Carolina with her family for the job. "I'm from a little small town and I'm definitely not used to city life but the people here friendly," she said. "They've definitely picked up on my accent and having a job here in Albany is fantastic."
Ben Weisman of Albany has a few other facilities around New York but says this site's proximity to the water and railways will be key to helping them grow even further.
