Fort Edward man charged with murder for infant son's death

FORT EDWARD, N.Y. - The Fort Edward Police Department has charged a man with murder in connection to the death of his 3-month-old child.

Police have charged 30-year-old Kevin Wayne King, of 25 Lydius Street in Fort Edward, with one count of second-degree murder and first-degree manslaughter for allegedly causing the death of the infant, 3-month-old Brett King, at his home.

Police say a report was made on Sunday around 2:30 p.m. from Glens Falls Hospital that the infant was brought in with life-threatening injuries. The baby was then transported to Albany Medical Center for treatment where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

An investigation revealed the child sustained the injuries at the Lydius Street home while he was home with his father.

Police say King was home alone watching the baby and gave conflicting reports to investigators as to how Brett sustained the injuries. Eventually, police say, he confessed to hurting the boy. Police claim King "grabbed the child by the torso, shook him, and then slammed the child down into the carpeted living room floor."

An autopsy is being conducted at Albany Medical Center to determine the exact cause of death.

King has been remanded to the Washington County Jail without bail.
