Firefighter who died unexpectedly remembered in Hudson

HUDSON, N.Y. – Residents of Hudson are remembering a volunteer firefighter who friends say was the embodiment of a volunteer.

Hundreds came out to honor Joe Maben who died unexpectedly on a softball field Saturday while playing in the New York State Firefighter softball tournament.

Nearly 300 firefighters stood in solidarity for their fallen brother on Friday.

"Joe was kind of our front line people that made everyone happy," said Chief Craig Haigh.

Haigh says Maben's death was a result of health problems. Along with his passion of fighting fires Joe was also known for his love of softball.

Maben served in three different fire departments and friends say he was passionate about protecting the community.

Funeral services were held Saturday August 10th at 10 a.m.
