GLENMONT, N.Y. -- Bethlehem Police have three people in custody after a young Shih Tzu was left malnourished with cuts all over its body on Route 9W in Glenmont.
Police have arrested 23-year old Jennelle Houghtaling, 47-year old Joyce Mainville and 24-year old Keith Whitten, all residents of Selkirk. They have all been charged with animal cruelty and animal abandonment.
Police say what made the crime worse was that there was a pet inn a few yards away from where they left the dog, the same pet inn where the small animal is recovering now.
"The dog actually seemed in pretty good spirits but was malnourished and had not been taken care of very well it had obvious scars and lesions that were visible to the naked eye just looked at the dog that anyone would be able to reckoned immediately," said Det. Sgt. Adam Hornick of the Bethlehem Police Department.
