CANAJOHARIE, N.Y. - Residents outraged over a plan to build a new dog kennel in Canajoharie showed up to a planning board meeting Monday night to voice their opinion.
Monday's night meeting in Canajoharie over a special use permit proposal by Elam Fisher lasted nearly three hours and had more than 70 people attend. But, in the end, the planning board felt that the proposal for a new dog kennel wasn't right for the town. The kennel would have housed 40 dogs.
Concerns over conditions and reputation of the kennel led the planning board to five 'no' votes and one abstained.
The person who submitted the application for the dog kennel can reapply again, but he says planning board will likely look at new measures and safeguards before such an option is considered.
