ALBANY, N.Y. – The Cellular Connection in Albany is inviting local families to bring their children by the store Saturday to pick up a backpack full of school supplies.
The backpacks will be given away on a first-come, first-served basis at the store, located at 1475 Western Ave., between noon and 2 p.m.
The giveaway is part of a national campaign by the company. Since May, TCC customers have been given the option to round their purchases up to the nearest dollar with the difference going toward the backpacks.
According to the National Retail federation, the average person with children in the grades K through 12 will spend $95.44 on school supplies such as notebooks, pencils and backpacks. With nearly 16 million children in the U.S. living in poverty, TCC hopes to help as many children as possible by donating over 60,000 bags across the country.
