BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. - A Greenfield man pleaded guilty to second-degree murder Friday in connection to the death of his mother last year.
Saratoga County District Attorney James Murphy says 26-year-old Joshua McWain killed his mother, 59-year-old Carol Stanford, after an argument at their Daniels Road home. Murphy says McWain then buried his mother under a shed on their property.
Her body was discovered after a neighbor became concerned and asked the Sheriff's Office to check on her welfare. McWain then admitted to striking his mother with a floor buffer and burying
her body in a root cellar under his work shed.
Murphy says Stanford's family is relieved that her son has been held responsible for this tragic act.
McWain also admitted to an unrelated
Violation of Probation, a misdemeanor stemming from a larceny from 2011.
He will be sentenced in September and is expected to receive a term of 19 to life in prison.
