Sheriff: Body found in river is Waterford woman missing since Feb.

GREEN ISLAND, N.Y. - The Albany County Sheriff's Department says they have recovered the body of a 24-year-old Waterford woman missing since February.

24-year-old Anna Kroup was last seen on February 18, 2013 just after midnight at her residence on Second Street in the Village of Waterford.

Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple says Kroup's body was discovered Monday in the Hudson River in the Village of Green Island near the Green Island Power Authority during a clean-up in the river by C.D. Perry Construction Company.

The body was recovered by Sheriff's Investigators and later identified by members of the Waterford Police Department by Kroup's tattoo markings.

After her disappearance, police divers unsuccessfully searched the Hudson River, covering their bases for any signs of the missing woman.

Her family posted a message to Facebook after she went missing saying, "So that energy is not wasted, we have decided, along with the Waterford Police, to tell you that Anna left a note at our home on Sunday night/Monday morning before she left, and that she likely left on foot."

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday at Albany Medical Center Hospital.

Sheriff Apple says the investigation is ongoing.
