SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - A pre-trial hearing at the Schenectady County Courthouse took place Friday for the grandmother accused of beating her grandson to death.
43-year-old Gloria Nelligan, of 23 Mynderse Avenue, was in court Friday for what's called a Huntley Processing, deciding whether or not statements both written or oral are admissible for trial.
In February, Nelligan's grandon 8-year-old Sha'hiim Nelligan was killed allegedly at the hands of his grandmother's abuse. According to police, Sha'hiim died after a "prolonged beating."
Several police officers took the stand Friday explaining what Nelligan told them when they arrived on scene.
Officers testified that Nelligan reported Sha'hiim was having behavioral problems and hit his head in the shower. And that later, after being sent to his room, Nelligan heard a thud and found her grandson unresponsive. That is when she said she called 911.
Nelligan is charged with second-degree murder and manslaughter.
