COLONIE, N.Y. - Colonie Police are gathered at the library on Albany Shaker Road Thursday morning searching for a 70-year-old woman reportedly missing.
Lt. Robert Winn says the missing woman is Beverly Coss of Burlington, Iowa. Winn says library staff noticed Coss inside her parked car in the parking lot on Tuesday and checked on her several times to make sure she was okay.
Staff says Coss reassured them she was fine and that she was in town acting as a missionary, assisting with flood relief efforts.
However, no one has seen her since Tuesday around 9 a.m., when her car was found vacant in the library parking lot.
Police are searching the wooded area behind the library near Wolf Road, at the point of entry where Coss's car remains parked on Thursday. A search of Coss's car revealed a note addressed to "police" indicating she was despondent. Police say it appeared that she was living in her vehicle, where her belongings were located.
The area was searched this week with assistance provided from the Rennselaer County Search and Rescue dogs and New York State Police Aviation, but they have been unsuccessful up to this time.
Coss is described as white female, 5'5, 140 pounds, brown hair, brown eyes.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Colonie Police Department at 783-2744.
