ALBANY, N.Y. -- The Empire State Plaza was rocking Wednesday night, when a huge crowd gathered for a free outdoor concert featuring Bret Michaels.
Michaels has been playing his music for 26 years, and he had at least two generations of fans at the plaza. The former Poison lead singer and reality TV star is a lifelong Type 1 Diabetic known for his charitable work.
But he says it is his passion for music that has allowed him to be so philanthropic.
"I am still as passionate as I am about music as I was the day I started. People say I started in a garage band -- I started in the basement. Anybody who grew up in this area knows that in the winter you have to go in the basement to play," he said.
The concert was part of the free Summer at the Plaza series.
