SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The 22nd Annual Hat Contest at Saratoga Race Course drew participants boasting their fanciest headwear Sunday.

Participating attendees celebrated the long-standing tradition that wraps up the final day of opening weekend. This year, the annual tradition featured an optional Victorian theme in honor of the 150th anniversary of the first organized race meet in Saratoga Springs.

Contestants ranged from children to adults participating in three different categories, including "Uniquely Saratoga," for the most original artistic take, "Fashionably Saratoga," for the most stylish piece, and "Kreative Kids," which is reserved for those ages 18 and under.

Following fourth race of the day, Kathleen Christopher of Saratoga Springs, was crowned the winner of the "Uniquely Saratoga" category, which is awarded whimsical and creative hats. Christopher received the grand prize of a $500 betting voucher and a silver trophy frame.

More than 100 contestants donned their most beautiful hats in the "Fashionably Saratoga" category. After the third race, Michelle Hogan, of Brunswick, was named the day's most fashionable and was awarded a $100 betting voucher and a silver trophy frame

Five-year-old Frank Potter, of Duanesburg, claimed the title in the "Kreative Kids" category.  She received the prize of a custom-made candy bar from Saratoga Sweets and a silver trophy frame.
