SUNY applies for grant to help unemployed and veterans find jobs

ALBANY, N.Y. – The SUNY system of community colleges has applied for a federal grant that would help unemployed upstate New Yorkers and veterans find jobs.

The $23 million would help train up to 6,000 New Yorkers and veterans for jobs in fields like nursing, lab technicians and paramedic positions.

Senator Chuck Schumer tells NEWS CENTER he's excited about the grant and is pushing for its approval.

Some of the local community colleges that could benefit from the grant include Schenectady, Adirondack, HVCC, Fulton-Montgomery and Herkimer.
