Gov. Cuomo designates Wynantskill Creek as an inland waterway

ALBANY, N.Y. – Governor Andrew Cuomo has signed a signed a law designating Wynantskill Creek an inland waterway under New York State's Coastal and Inland Waterways Program.

This makes the Town of Sand Lake eligible for state and federal grant funds which were previously unavailable

"For future planning purposes, this inland waterway designation can provide significant quality of life and economic opportunities for our community. It may prove to be invaluable for any enhancements and revitalization projects, partnerships and community development that take place in Sand Lake," said Sand Lake Town Supervisor Flora Fasoldt.

In December 2012, the Town Board in Sand Lake authorized Fasoldt to take the necessary steps to seek designation of the Wynantskill Creek as an "inland waterway."

The Wynantskill Creek is of great historical importance in Rensselaer County, providing water to the Manor of Rensselaerswyck as well as the ironworks that provided the plate for the Civil War iron clad ship, the Monitor
