BALLSTON, N.Y. - The Saratoga County Sheriff's Office responded to a home in the town of Ballston on Monday after a resident found a World War II hand grenade while cleaning the basement.

The Sheriff's Office says they responded to 53 Middle Line Road around 12:30 p.m. Monday. Deputies secured the area and the New York State Police Explosives Unit responded to assist.

The hand grenade was live, officials say, and secured by the explosives unit. They say the grenade was a Mark II WWII device.
