HERKIMER, N.Y. – A single vehicle accident in Herkimer resulted in the death of a passenger Sunday afternoon.
State Police say they responded to a call of a vehicle rolled over on I-90 east in the Town of Herkimerat around 1:09 p.m. Sunday.
Jennifer Hodson, 42, of Houston, Texas was driving a Chevrolet Express van when witnesses said that the vehicle drove off the left hand lane into a dirt median, re-entered the road and overturned several times before coming to rest on its side in the middle of both lanes.
There were nine people in the vehicle, including Hodson.
Tanya Evans, 67, of Allandale, Va. was pronounced dead at the scene by the Herkimer County Coroner and transported to Little Falls Hospital morgue pending an autopsy.
The driver and two of the passengers were transported to St. Luke's Hospital. Three of the passengers were transported to Little Falls Hospital. One passenger was transported to St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Utica and later flown to Upstate Medical Center by Mercy Flight. One additional passenger was flown directly from the scene to Upstate Medical Center also by Mercy Flight.
Both eastbound lanes on I-90 were blocked for about four hours while the scene was being investigated and cleared.
