FORT EDWARD, NY - According to Washington County Sheriff Jeffrey Murphy, at about 6:30 a.m. today a single vehicle accident occurred on Kinney Road in the Town of Argyle.
A patrol located the accident shortly after it had occurred. They contacted rescue personnel who responded and extricated the driver, who was transported to Glens Falls Hospital and then transferred to Albany Medical Center.
The vehicle, a 1994 Acura, was traveling east bound on Kinney Road when the operator lost control, going off the righthand side of the roadway, striking a tree. The impact was so severe that the vehicle was demolished.
The passenger, Dylan Thomas, 22, of Argyle, was ejected and suffered fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Coroner James Gariepy and taken to Albany Medical Center pending autopsy.
The driver, Alex Smith, 21, of State Route 40, was extricated from the vehicle and transported to Glens Falls Hospital and then to Albany Medical Center, where he is undergoing surgery for his injuries.
The investigation is on going, and speed is believed to be a factor in the crash.
The case is being investigated by uniformed members along with the investigative division of the Sheriffs Office and were assisted at the scene by troopers from Greenwich.
Argyle Rescue squad along Argyle Fire, and Fort Edward Fire Departments were on scene for the rescue.
