WYNANTSKILL, N.Y. -- Nearly 200 parents and teachers called for the Wynantskill district superintendent to be fired at a school board meeting Thursday night.
The meeting gave parents their first chance to collectively voice their opinion about superintendent and principal Dr. Lisa Henkel. In doing so, they handed the school board a petition with more than 400 signatures asking for Henkel to be terminated.
The decision among parents comes after a Vote of No Confidence by teachers in the district who feel the superintendent isn't fit for the job.
Meredith Gavin claimed Henkel is putting students like Gavin's special needs son in jeopardy.
Gavin and other parents who spoke with the NEWS CENTER claim Henkel is failing to meet state and federal education requirements for remedial services, refusing to provide parents with the results of their children's evaluations and when confronted with their concerns, will simply brush them off.
Union President Matt Lutz said Henkel rules by fear and intimidation.
Henkel said regardless of the complaint, her focus and commitment has been in the best interest of the students.
