ALBANY, N.Y. - The Times Union Center has not seen major renovations in the 27 years it has been built in the downtown Albany area, but the arena may be getting a facelift in the near future.
It's a project officials say will cost $6 million to $11 million to complete. According to the Executive Director of the TU Center, Bob Belber, there are plans to expand the concourse level on the second floor, providing an additional 22,000 square feet of space.
The expansion is being done in hopes of creating more revenue and attracting more events to the arena, like the NCAA tournament. Plans to expand the main concourse will also alleviate congestion and other problems the arena faces.
Plans to expand the TU Center are in the preliminary stages, meaning there is no funding to pay for the construction as of right now or a set time table for the project.
