TROY, N.Y. – Members of the U.S. Navy will be in Troy Wednesday to take part in the YES I CAN! Camp.
Twelve men from the Navy will become a buddy to a child living with a disability at the YES I CAN! Camp at the Troy Central Little League.
The men call themselves "The Nukes" as they work and study as part of the Naval Nuclear Power Training Unit in Ballston Spa.
YES I CAN! Camp is a free, week-long summer camp founded by Paula Gretzinger of ‘Parentology with Paula.' The camp, which is open to the public, was formed as an opportunity for children with learning disabilities to come together and play sports.
"It's been an amazing experience and these men deserve to be honored for this," Gretzinger said. "Every day they show up with a huge smile on their face, and they look forward to having a little buddy, and the kids love them."
Gretzinger has partnered with Jim Fitzgerald from Sports Are For Everyone to organize the camp.
The camp runs from 9 a.m. – noon.
