Police: Device believed to be pipe bomb not real


TROY, N.Y.  – Police have confirmed that a device resembling a reported pipe bomb found in Troy last week was not real.

Troy Police Captain John Cooney tells the NEWS CENTER that what the device was not a pipe bomb, but it did look similar.

State Police said the device was found outside a Troy apartment complex on July 3rd. A man walking his dog along River Street found the item and called police.

The area around Building 4 of the Taylor Apartments was cordoned off, and Front Street was closed for several hours while investigators cleared the scene.
