Schenectady man to be sentenced to 10 years after hotel burglary

ALBANY, N.Y. – A Schenectady man will be sentenced to 10 years in State Prison to be followed by five years of post-release supervision after pleading guilty to one felony count of Robbery in the 2nd degree Tuesday.

District Attorney David Soares announced that 30-year-old David Taylor, of Schenectady, appeared before the Honorable Thomas Breslin in the Supreme Court of Albany County for his involvement in a February incident at the Best Western Motel on Wolf Road.

On February 12 at approximately 11:30 p.m., Taylor, along with an unidentified individual who was not charged, entered the Colonie hotel and directed two employees to get down on to the floor.  During the incident, one of the employees was grabbed by the neck and thrown to the floor.  At which point Taylor took cash from the registers at the front desk and directed the employees to count to 100 before he fled.

Following an investigation by the Colonie Police Department, authorities discovered that Taylor was a former employee of the hotel who had been previously fired by management.

Taylor will return to court on August 13 for sentencing.

Anyone who may have additional information about the unidentified co-defendant is being asked to contact the Albany County District Attorney's Office at (518) 487-5460.
