GLOVERSVILLE, N.Y. – Lisa M. (Nicolella) Stevens was arrested Saturday, after police investigated a reported robbery and found that Stevens allegedly stole a purse from a woman and fled the scene with her 19-month-old son in her vehicle.
The Gloversville Police Department received the initial report late Friday night after a woman in the Price Chopper parking lot, located at 358 N Main Street, was forcibly pulled to the ground after having her purse stolen.
Patrols found 30-year-old Stevens, of 107 Verkleir Lane, Mayfield, NY, in the Nathan Littauer Hospital parking lot in possession of a controlled substance, with her son asleep in the back seat of her red Chevrolet Aveo.
While investigating the initial report, police say Stevens later returned to the Price Chopper and purchased a $100 gift card using a stolen credit card. They also learned that in the early morning hours Friday, Stevens had offered a ride home to a different woman from Price Chopper and when the woman was unloading groceries, Stevens drove away with the woman's purse in her vehicle.
After further investigation, police say Stevens may have also been involved in another theft of a purse outside of the city later Friday night.
Stevens was charged with a felony count of Robbery in the 2nd degree and two felony counts of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property. She was also charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Assault in the 3rd degree, all misdemeanors.
Stevens was arraigned before City Court Judge Tracy DiMezza and remanded on $25,000 cash or $50,000 bond.
Police say the investigation is ongoing and more charges are possible.
