CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. – The under-17 Capital United girls soccer team will soon head to Florida to compete in the US Youth Soccer National Championships as the only team representing New York State.
For a third consecutive year, the Blue Fusion squad earned the 2013 US Youth Soccer Region I (Northeast) Presidents Cup title. The team went undefeated in its triumphant battles against top talents from Maryland, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire and Pennsylvania. As a result of the accomplishment, the athletes now have the honor of advancing as the only team, across age and gender, to represent New York at the national level.
In order to get there, though, the team had its work cut out for them. The team has spent the last several week conducting fundraisers, from coin drops to car washes, in an effort to raise the money needed for the costs of lodging, air travel and van rentals.
With their departure quickly approaching this Wednesday, the girls now shift their attention back to the field as they prepare to compete to bring home the national title.
