PARK, N.Y. – The under-17 Capital United girls soccer team will soon head to
Florida to compete in the US Youth Soccer National Championships as the only
team representing New York State.
For a third
consecutive year, the Blue Fusion squad earned the 2013 US Youth Soccer Region
I (Northeast) Presidents Cup title. The
team went undefeated in its triumphant battles against top talents from
Maryland, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire and Pennsylvania. As a
result of the accomplishment, the athletes now have the honor of advancing as
the only team, across age and gender, to represent New York at the national
In order to
get there, though, the team had its work
cut out for them. The team has spent the last several week conducting
fundraisers, from coin drops to car washes, in an effort to raise the money
needed for the costs of lodging, air travel and van rentals.
With their departure quickly approaching
this Wednesday, the girls now shift their attention back to the field as they
prepare to compete to bring home the national title.
