Man struck by lightning at Columbia County park

ANCRAM, N.Y. - A 26-year-old man was struck by lightning at the Lake Takghanic State Park in Columbia County on Sunday afternoon as he attempted to seek shelter from the storm near a tree.

The storm Sunday caused the unidentified man to run for cover under a tree when the tree he was standing under was struck by lightning.

The man was taken to Columbia Memorial Hospital after he went into cardiac arrest, and is now in stable condition.

The storm also caused flooding on parts of the Taconic State Parkway, downed trees and power outages in the nearby area.

Lightning also struck a camp store in the area, according to the Columbia County Sheriff's Office, but no one was injured.
