WESTERLO, N.Y. – The Westerlo Volunteer Fire Company gathered alongside community members to celebrate 75 years of service over the weekend.
The celebration began Friday at 6 p.m., with festivities carrying on through 11 p.m. Saturday at Westerlo Town Park on County Road 401.
Town residents listened as volunteer firefighters shared stories chronicling their time spent in service and explained why they felt becoming a volunteer was important to the community. Fire Chief Kevin Flensted was also available to discuss the evolution of the fire company over the past several decades, as well as his vision for the future.
The event also featured a parade, firematic games, a medflight helicopter display, live music by country band Skeeter Creek, a skills competition between Albany volunteer fire companies and a fireworks display, along with games, raffles and prizes. The firehouse displayed its apparatuses and even put some of them into action for attendees.
