ALBANY, N.Y. – As the city gears up for the region's largest firework show, the Albany Police Department is advising residents to prepare for a high volume of vehicular traffic expected to flood into the city ahead of the 4th of July Fireworks Celebration.
The annual event begins at 3 p.m. and ends at 10 p.m. at the Empire State Plaza Thursday, but several road closures and parking restrictions will be in effect beginning at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday.
In an effort to promote safe and efficient travel, alternate routes will be implemented for commuters leaving the area, along with electronic message boards and police officers directing traffic as needed.

Albany Police are asking for cooperation and patience the night of the event and have advised that additional closures may be necessary based on traffic volume and delays.
CDTA will have several buses staged on Washington Avenue near the Capital. CDTA will also have staff on-site to assist commuters in selecting the correct bus route.
