SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - A man incarcerated in Schenectady County Jail has been charged in the death of a retired nun found dead inside her home on New Year's Day.

The Schenectady County District Attorney's Office says 37-year-old Michael Briggs, a parolee, has been charged with first-degree murder in connection to the killing of 82-year-old Mary Greco.

Briggs was taken into custody on a parole violation in January. He was being held on unrelated charges while being questioned in Greco's death.

The indictment was unsealed Tuesday. In addition to murder, Briggs is charged with robbery, grand larceny, and possession of stolen property.

Greco was found killed inside 1402 Stanford Street in Schenectady on January 1, 2013 by the owners of her apartment building.

Her car, which had been parked at the crime scene, was located by police in the parking lot of St. John the Evangelist Church parking lot shortly after she was found. After her death, a rosary with 8mm Swarovski Amethyst crystal beads and a sterling silver crucifix and center was also discovered missing from her home.
