ALBANY, N.Y. – With the 2013-14 season just four months away, the University at Albany has announced that they will take on longtime rival Siena for the first tip-off of its 13-game non-conference schedule.
The Great Danes' non-league schedule will begin with the always highly-anticipated face-off against the Saints squad, led by newly hired head coach Jimmy Patsos, at the Times Union Center. This marks the 54th time the two crosstown programs will go head-to-head, which is the program's third most contests against a Division I opponent behind Binghamton (91 times) and Stony Brook (61 times).
After earning the America East Conference title in the 2012-13 season, the Great Danes head into the upcoming season confident that this year's schedule will give the experience they need to compete.
"Our non-schedule this year is a balanced one that I am confident will get us ready for America East Conference play," said head coach Will Brown. "The non-conference schedule is highlighted with a game at Pitt of the ACC in the Petersen Events Center which is one of the best basketball venues in the country."
The 13 non-conference games include two match-ups against NCAA Tournament participants, making Brown hopeful that it will be enough of a test to integrate the team's new players with seasoned veterans in preparation for competing in the America East Conference Championship.
On November 23, the Great Danes host the defending Patriot League Champions, Bucknell, in SEFCU Arena. Then on New Years' Eve, the Great Danes will travel to the Petersen Events Center in a battle against Pittsburgh.
The 18-game America East Conference schedule, along with game times and television designation, will be released later this summer.
