Thruway construction suspended over Fourth of July weekend

ALBANY, N.Y. – The New York State Thruway Authority will be suspending all construction projects throughout the Fourth of July holiday period.

In an effort to encourage safe travel and limit the number of traffic disruptions, construction will be suspended from noon Wednesday, July 3 until noon Monday, July 8 from Exit 19 (Kingston) on I-87 to Exit 29 (Canajoharie) on I-90. During that period, contractors will only be allowed to perform work that will not be disruptive or distracting  to drivers.

During last year's holiday travel period (Saturday, June 30, 2012 to Sunday, July 8, 2012), more than 6.5 million vehicles traveled more than 216 million miles on the Thruway.
