Dive teams search for man in Mettawee Falls swimming hole

Updated:
GRANVILLE, N.Y. - State Police dive teams and State Forest Rangers are still looking 39-year-old Richard Kelley, of Whitehall, who jumped into a rain-swollen river and failed to resurface Saturday afternoon.

State Police in Granville responded along with emergency rescue personnel to the Mettawee Falls swimming hole off of Upper Turnpike Road around 2:30 p.m. Saturday for a report of a possible drowning.

Police say witnesses reported the man jumped in the water and did not re-surface.

Several area rescue teams including the State Police scuba team, State Police Aviation, State Forest Rangers searched the immediate area with negative results when the search was suspended Sunday due to the higher the normal water levels resulting from recent storms.

Dive team members and forest rangers checked the scene and surrounding area again Monday, but were still unable to locate Kelley.

Police say the area will be checked periodically throughout the week as weather conditions permit.
