ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - State police say a trooper was
hurt during a traffic stop when his patrol car was struck from behind by
a driver who had a medical emergency.
The accident happened about 6:45 Friday morning
between exits 23 and 24 on the southbound side of the New York State
Thruway in Albany. Trooper George Varghese had pulled a
vehicle over when he saw a pick-up truck approaching from behind.
Varghese got back into his marked Tahoe SUV and the
vehicle was hit by the truck driven by 58-year-old Stephen Milan of
Middle Grove. Milan continued, driving off the right shoulder several
times before hitting a guard rail and stopping.
Varghese was treated for back and neck pain and released from a hospital. Milan was treated for diabetic shock and released.
