Derailment leads to Amtrak service changes west of Albany


Due to Thursday's derailment of a CSX freight train in the area of Amsterdam, NY, Amtrak Empire Service trains will operate Friday with alternate transportation to points west of Albany with the following exceptions: 

Train 280 – cancelled between Niagara Falls and Albany, no alternate transportation

Train 283 – cancelled between Albany and Niagara Falls, no alternate transportation

Empire Service between New York Penn Station and Albany will operate on a normal Friday schedule.

The Lake Shore Limited (service between Chicago and New York) will operate with alternate transportation provided between Buffalo and Albany.   

There is no estimate for track restoration at this time.
