Study: No reason to close Indian Point Nuclear Plant

BUCHANAN, N.Y. -- It's been the subject of controversy for many years, but an updated federal study says there is still no reason to close the Indian Point Nuclear Plant.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission made the announcement Tuesday in response to new data on the plant's effects on aquatic life in the nearby Hudson.

The NRC found that Indian Point's functioning poses no noticeable effect on life in the river, leaving only a small impact on endangered sturgeon.

Opponents are still allowed to appeal today's findings.
