NORTH GREENBUSH, N.Y. -- Monday's storm only lasted 20 minutes but caused a lot of damage in North Greenbush.
Emily Coppenwrath lives on Mammoth Springs Rd. in North Greenbush and said the heavy winds and rain were very unexpected.
"We saw the storm clouds, thought maybe there would be some rain and wind and didn't really think too much of it," she said.
But the storm crushed Coppenwrath's new vehicle. She said it was only parked there for 15 minutes.
"I'm really glad I wasn't pulling in or sitting in the car," she said. "I had actually left my cell phone sitting in the car. My husband was going to run out and grab it, but I'm glad he didn't."
Less than a mile from Coppenwrath's home is Walker Ave. Another car was crushed by surrounding trees that fell onto a driveway.
A few streets over in Rensselaer is Sara Torres' home on Lakeview Ave.
"All I remember hearing was just a lot of loud noises and a lot of rain," Torres said. "We tried to open the front door and we couldn't even close it, the winds were that strong."
Torres' said all of the trees that fell on her property were not hers. She said she is thankful her actual home was spared.
She said, "We came in our backyard and saw these trees here and my daughter was actually playing in her playroom. I was nervous it was going to fall on our house but am thankful it didn't and no one was harmed."
