HUDSON, N.Y. – About 12 residents at a Hudson nursing home were evacuated because of an electrical fire Sunday.
Residents of the Home of the Aged were forced outside into 90 degree heat because of a fire, but a well-rehearsed emergency plan helped to keep the residents cool.
Step one of the emergency plan was to evacuate all the residents, step two was to bring them to a specified shaded location, and step three was to keep the residents hydrated and cool.
"It's important to keep water in them, keep them ice packed down," Fire Chief Craig Haigh said. "You keep them in the cool. It is 92 degrees out here today, so that's the most important thing right now."
The power was later restored and no injuries were reported.
