STRIDE holds 4th annual Community Run/Walk

ALBANY, N.Y. – Wounded veterans and youth-athletes in wheelchairs joined hundreds of participants in front of the Albany Riverfront Park Amphitheatre Saturday morning for the 4th Annual ‘Stride 4 STRIDE' 5K Run and 2.5K Community Walk and Wheelchair Roll.

Community members participated in the awareness demonstration to promote living a healthy, active lifestyle, regardless of disability. The course began in front of the amphitheater and led racers down a fast, flat course through Albany's Corning Preserve. Participants in the family-friendly 2.5K Community Walk crossed the finish line as teams, with some athletes partnering up with participants who had special needs to help provide the extra push they needed to roll across the mark.

Sparky the Clown, Zippy the Clown & Goofball, a clown with special needs, were e on hand to provide face-painting, temporary tattoos and balloon making for the kids.  Goofball, a clown with special needs herself, walked alongside participants during the event.

For more family fun, there was also a bouncy bounce house, vendor refreshment tent with free Chobani yogurt and novelty ice-Cream, free chair massages, a 400 meter Tot-Run and a mascot appearance from the Albany Devils.

STRIDE Adaptive is a not-for-profit volunteer organization dedicated to enriching the lives of children and individuals with disabilities through sports and recreation programs.
